Catholic priest abducted in Ondo

Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers, have abducted a Catholic Priest, Rev Joseph Ajayi, along the Akure-Ikere road in Ondo State.

According to a report, the catholic priest abducted was said to be travelling in his Toyota Corolla to Ilara-Mokin in Ifedore Local Government Area, close to Akure, the state capital, where his parish is located.

News Nigeria Today learnt that the victim is a priest of the St Peter Clavar, Ilara Mokin in the Ifedore Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Rev Fr Victor Ibiyemi, who is the Secretary to the Bishop of the Ondo Catholic Diocese, Most Rev Jude Arogundade, who confirmed the incident, said the abductors had contacted the church and demanded the sum of N20m as ransom.

“We have been on it since morning; the kidnappers have contacted the church and are demanding N20m,” the cleric disclosed in a statement.

Efforts to contact the state Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, were unsuccessful as her telephone rang out.

This is not the first time rampaging bandits will pick up important public figures and demand ransom in 6 figures.

Citizens have been advised to keep low profile and be vigilant at all times.
